Budapest brought a sharp and vivid winter – frosty December mornings followed by blistering sunlight come high noon. Christmas in the Hungarian capital still left me feeling surprisingly warm.
As beautiful on the ground as it is from the high point on Gellért Hill, Budapest carries a friendly atmosphere not least reflected in the luxurious public baths but also in the Christmas markets dotted around the city centre. The Royal Palace grounds are a fine reminder that ‘The Jewel of Eastern Europe’ is a beautiful city and one that leaves it’s mark.
